Mpumelelo Tshume

Mpumelelo brings his corporate experience to the team.

Mpumelelo has 28 years business experience acquired at various blue-chip organisations. At SABMiller he worked in the Human Resources, Finance and Administration, Commercial and Operations functions. At Transnet, a multi-modal transport company in South Africa, he was involved in the entire Human Resources value chain and attained the position of General Manager: Human Resources Services.

He was introduced into the Energy (Oil and Gas) industry when he joined Engen Petroleum and was involved in the company’s turnaround project (Project Discovery). At Engen, he held executive positions in Human Resources and International Business responsible for 12 countries in sub-Sahara Africa.

Mpumelelo has an excellent understanding of African development and cross-border trading. He undertook a 2 year overseas assignment with Petronas in Malaysia and worked in the Marketing Group.

Mpumelelo played a leading role in the establishment of the National Petroleum, Oil and Gas Corporation of South Africa (PetroSA) where he was Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer. One of his major achievements was bringing to production Sable Oil Field located in the Southern Cape.

He holds a BCom (Economics) and a Masters in Business Administration, and served on the audit committee of the Western Province Government’s Health Department and was a Board member of Peermont Global Limited and currently is a director on CEBICapital (Pty) Ltd. Mpumelelo is currently Chairman of South African Rugby (Pty) Ltd as well as Chairman of Sanzer, a Joint-Venture between South African Rugby, New Zealand and Australian Rugby Unions.
